Background

St Mary’s College, Broome is a coeducational K-12 school with a long history of education in the Kimberley. The school is over 100 years old and was one of the first in the area.

Problem

The student population learn best when they are highly engaged. The constant interruption to wireless connectivity meant online learning was hit and miss, leaving students restless and teachers stressed.

Action

ICT Administrator, Sam Baird engaged Catalytic IT to upgrade their wireless network to their newly acquired Xirrus wireless.

Outcome

St Mary’s have the fastest Wi-Fi they’ve ever had thanks to David and Michael’s Wi-Fi upgrade.

How We Helped

St Mary’s had an out-dated wireless network which was over loaded with the sudden increase in mobile devices. This placed increasing pressure on the teachers who found that integrating ICT into lessons was becoming a flashpoint for problem behaviour.

As the network dropped out, students became disengaged, restless and made poor choices, leading to an increasing number of behaviour management issues. Teachers were left feeling frustrated and stressed, juggling the demands of students with a Wi-Fi system that just wasn’t up to the job.

We implemented a Xirrus Wireless upgrade which provided a school wide wireless solution for St Mary’s. We upgraded their outdated infrastructure and added connectivity throughout the school.

The Outcome

The wireless network has been a huge relief for teachers as they are able to seamlessly integrate technology and mobile devices into learning.
